What does the Carony do?
Transferring without lifting.
The Carony is a system that lets you transfer from wheelchair to car seat without lifting. It takes away all the difficult, heavy and dangerous parts of the transfer. It's as safe and comfortable as a standard car seat and it's as versatile and easy to use as a transport wheelchair.

Who is the Carony for?
Users, Carers, Couples, Children, Parents.

If you're a wheelchair user and have trouble doing the transfer by yourself. If you're a carer and lifting your partner, parent or child, between wheelchair and car seat is difficult or impossible. Then the Carony might be the thing you need.

It can also be about being able to stay together. For users and carers that live together, there are many aids to help them manage independently at home. The Carony is an extension of that independence that will take you as far as you're willing to drive.

What is required from me?
Sit or push.

As a user, the Carony lets you do the transfer with very little effort, in fact all you need to do is stay seated.

As a carer you don't even have to be very strong to transfer a heavy person. If you can push a wheelchair with a person in it, then you can use the Carony.

How do I use it?
Swivel, dock and slide.

That's about it. Three simple steps to transfer from wheelchair to car seat, without lifting.

In the car we have a swivel base that you dock with the Carony wheelchair. Once you've docked the Carony to the swivel base, you slide the seat with the user from the wheel base onto the swivel base. You disconnect the wheel base, and swivel in.

You have now transferred from wheelchair to car and you're sitting in a regular car seat. Just be sure to wear the car's original seat belt before you enjoy the ride.

Of course you need to bring the wheel base along and since it is quite easy to handle and relatively light weight, put it in the trunk. If you have trouble lifting you can use a wheelchair hoist.

The System.

In short the Carony system consists of three parts: the seat, the wheel base and the swivel base. Together with the wheelbase the seat will become a standard transport wheelchair. Together with the swivel base the seat becomes a tested and approved car seat. This means anyone, wheelchair user or not, can sit up front in the Carony seat, use the car's original seat belt and enjoy a safe and comfortable ride.

Carony seat

The Seat.

This is where the user sits, safely and comfortably. It is the moving part of the Carony that slides with the user between wheel base and swivel base. The seat has many different features for good posture and pressure relief. For example, raising the front of the seat cushion and reclining backrest. It also has integrated carer handles with brakes.

Take a look at the Features section for a closer look at these and other features of the Carony seat.

The Wheel base.

This is the wheel base. Together with the seat it forms the Carony wheelchair. This is where you find details such as foot rests, the crank for height adjustment and the parking brake. To make it easy to move around and safe to park, it has premium 16" wheels with disc brakes. The height adjustment crank helps to match the height of the car when docking, but it can also be useful for various situations in and around the home.

The Swivel base.

To enable the wheel base to dock and to hold the Carony seat, the swivel base takes the place of the original car seat. As the name suggest it can rotate towards the door opening so that the wheel base can dock on. Depending on the height and size of your car the Swivel base can look and function differently. In a higher car it could rotate out and lower down before docking the seat. And then lift both seat and user into the vehicle.

Regardless of how they look and work, all our compatible Swivel bases are crash tested and approved in combination with the Carony seat. We do these tests according to the same standards as car manufacturers.

The BIG features.

The Carony’s purpose is to make it easy to transfer from wheelchair to car seat. However you will likely spend far more time seated in the Carony than you are doing transfers. That’s why usability and comfort were in focus when designing and adding features to the Carony.

Combine these features with our seating accessories to make the Carony a very comfortable car seat and wheelchair. For anyone, regardless of individual needs.

Push handles with brakes.

The Carony now features integrated push handles with brakes. When used as a car seat the handles fold into the back of the seat. It provides more space and clear impact surface for anyone seated behind the Carony seat. To achieve the greatest brake force with minimal input both rear wheels have disc brakes. If you need to let go of the handles but want to keep the brakes engaged you can flick a switch to temporarily hold the brakes. For longer stops and after docking, use the parking brake on the side of the Carony.

Highly adjustable.

Almost everything on the Carony is adjustable. From top to bottom you can adjust the height of the headrest, the thickness of the lumbar support, the height and angle of each individual armrest, the depth of the seat, the recline of the backrest, height of the front of the seat, the seating height of the Carony, the length of the foot rest as well as the angle and direction of the foot rests. Furthermore, we have the optional elevating leg support.

The little details.
While these aren’t exactly the deal makers or the unique selling points of the Carony, we still think they’re nifty enough to brag about.

Carer ergonomics
All the levers used by the carer during operation and docking are at the same height, at the base of the seat cushion.

High quality wheels
The Carony wheel base sports premium 16" tyres that you won’t wear out in the first place. The reflective sides gives added peace of mind when moving about in the dark.

Mesh pocket
At the back of the seat, below the cover for the push handles, we've added a small mesh pocket. A convenient place to store items you want quick access to.

Fixed position, adjustable leg rests
The highly adjustable foot rests of the Carony keep their position fixed in relation to the seat when adjusting the height.

Child accessories

Headrest
This headrest is much lower than the standard version. It is also very flexible and allows both height and width adjustments according to the child’s needs.

4-point harness
The primary function of the harness is to help provide the child with a good and comfortable seating posture. A good seating posture is, in turn, a necessity for the seat belt to work properly.

Torso and Thigh Support
Choose either one or both to provide extra support to achieve that all-important good seating posture. It also creates a more enclosing seat which some users prefer.

Belt deflector
This simple yet vital device helps place the seat belt the correct angle across the shoulder. This is what's known as proper seat belt geometry. If a crash should occur and the shoulder point of the belt is too high the belt could strangle the user. If it’s too low the belt could fail in holding the upper body.

Child armrest
Armrests that are closer together to better suit small bodies.
